The Maritime Raid Force (MRF) of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) of the US Marine Corps (USMC) will undertake a series of training events throughout Hawaii.
The training events will be held from 6 to 20 January 2023.
Called as Realistic Urban Training Exercise (RUTEX) 23.1, this exercise is a part of the MEU’s pre-deployment training programme.
RUTEX 23.1 will see around 100 marines undertaking several mission essential tasks.
These tasks are required to prepare and certify the marines for deployment throughout the Indo-Pacific.
The events will include a set of simulated direct action, limited-scale raids undertaken at military installations as well as pre-coordinated off-installation locations.
RUTEX 23.1 is being held in coordination with the state government, local landowners and law enforcement authorities.
The Honolulu Police Department and other law-enforcement entities will also take part in the training to remain capable in their missions under similar environments.
Besides participation of ground tactical vehicles and military aircraft, the event will see blank gunfire and simulated explosives.
For each simulated raid, law enforcement personnel and military exercise safety staff will be present on-site.
The MRF of the 31st MEU took part in a series of training events at Oahu in Hawaii from 3 to 13 January 2022.
In April 2022, USMC deactivated?the Marine Aircraft Group 24’s oldest flying squadron , Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 (HMH-463), which was also called Pegasus. This deactivation was marked by a ceremony at USMC Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
